The Fridge Files

Jennifer's fridge - the blackboard in the kitchen
So, this is another child-centred fridge. But this time I read order, organisation and purpose in this chaotic colourful jumble. Why? Well, it's a single matching set of numbers and letters - fun to play with, but disciplined in its way and designed as a learning tool. The only other things on the fridge are two weekly planners - one which looks like it's designed to teach the days of the week, and one which has been carefully filled out by a very young hand. I reckon this fridge tells me that these people are child-centric, they are (or try to be!) organised, and they value learning in any environment. (And I spy a William amongst the letters!)

Anna's fridge - hippie, hipster, ladyman
Anna's fridge includes no free magnets, shopping lists or pics of friends and family. Instead, its a gallery of 'stuff wot she likes'. This obviously includes David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Nick Cave - beautiful, bohemian and strangely feminine all... The tram line magnets and the little square ones in the top left show an Inner West hipster, the round coloured dots are her mod side and the hanging feathers and tassels are the inner hippie. There are a couple of kitsch souvenir magnets - the Statue of Liberty and the zoo thermometer - which don't really match the mood of the rest. Gifts... This is fridge as gallery - she must keep useful stuff elsewhere...
Elise's fridge - people, people who need people...
Elise's fridge... Here we have a selection of photos of friends and family, a wedding(?) invitation and an eclectic mix of free and collected magnets. Chiswick Plumbing features - are they the most prolific magnet distributors in Sydney? There's a child close to this family - the finger painting is quite arty and has a designer feel (no random scribbles here...) And pets - what do you do with your pet when you can't be there? Oooh, there is the shopping list again! This must be Elise's organised side - along with the list of measurements. Is she a keen baker? Or is that a front for her espionage activities? There's a magnet warning about female spies on the right. Someone's a fan of The Office, too! Quite the feature is the big red bottle opener. I surmise that someone in this house is a beer or cider drinker and favours a brand which doesn't have a twist top! So, this lot are people-oriented, pet-friendly, beer drinkers, with a taste for dry comedy.
Susan's fridge - the kid zone...
This is Susan's fridge. As she is a friend of mine - I know there is a child in this house! Even so, I reckon you can tell from the fridge. Not only is there a photograph of said child, the fridge is covered in art, as well as what looks like a school note. There also seem to be a smattering of novelty/souvenir magnets - these people like a bit of quirk. And then there's magnetic shopping list. Is this Susan's organised side? The layout is pretty haphazard, though and to me this fridge says proud, laidback parents...
My curated fridge

I'm not a minimalist - I'm definitely a fridge-decorator. Although I admit that I do 'curate' my fridge and adjust things every now and again...
So, to kick things off, here's mine.
This pretty much covers the gamut - a quote from my favourite book, a Penguin book cover (mentioning two things I like to eat), two favourite TV shows, a penchant for morris dancing (the clogs), a nod to a depressive personality (blue!), a sketch by my sister and a retro list of tram stops from the local area. So, checking out my fridge pretty much tells you about me (shallow or what?)
Of course I do have all the other stuff - the plumber magnets, the pizza menus etc - but I stick them on the side where I don't have to see them!!
If you want to add your fridge - send me a pic and description to caperinglibrarian at gmail dot com
